sorry it's been so long since I've last posted.! I've been so busy. so much to say and so little time. NO snow,No cold weather(at least not like ours) I'm not sure that this Christmas will feel like a real Christmas. i think I'm kind of dazed at the moment.. i can't believe it's already December! and it doesn't feel right. so unusual. last weekend i was in shorts! it's not suppose to be summer it should be winter cold and wishing for snow! such a change. I've moved host families and i will have a Swedish Christmas which they celebrate on Christmas eve and then i will make my way back to Chris and Ken's for Christmas day lunch(Aussie style) with their family. oh and we are on summer holidays. did u know they give homework that has to be finished over the holidays! talk about ruining a holiday!=D
I've started to think when people ask about my family I now tell them I'm a lucky person because i have even more family than i thought ever possible rotary, blood, friends, exchange students, and host families. so many people! I don't think anyone realizes how large My family is now. =D i still don't have a full grasp on it.
well i've done so much in so little time i only have 6 short months left.
but with in my 6 months i'll do the rock to reef tour which is a 26 day trip and we have a lot planned for that(all inbound exchange students), bike ride(400or 500 kilm. which is around 200/300 miles.) i'll do this within a weeks time i couldn't do that in a day haha!
i'll go camping, sailing, fishing, and school some where in between all of this =D.
thats it for now i'll add some pictures soon
ta(thanks)
stay warm all! =D merry christmas and happy new years! <3xx

I'm sure there are a lot of Alleghany folk who would exchange weather with you. It's been in minus single digits each of the last two nights, although this morning it is a toasty 22 degrees.
Christmas was, well Christmas. Lot's of folk in town with trees on the roofs of their cars. There was even a bit of a bump in shopping.
After Christmas, we settled into the continuing recession. The economy is slow. I don't think I really realized how dependent our economy is on people coming from down the mountain, particularly from Florida, to buy land and homes. When the mortgage crisis struck, it was like we had been flying down the freeway in a fast car and all of a sudden the driver started standing on the brakes. It wasn't long before our few manufacturing facilities started laying off workers. It's a bit scary.
The Obama inauguration is something of a diversion from the economic doom and gloom, but not entirely. The folks that voted for him are excited about its historic significance, that America is finally beginning to realize the M.L. King dream that a man can be judged by the content of his character rather than the color of his skin.
I'm one of those starry-eyed dreamers. I don't think we are there yet, but this is big step.
But even the folk who are wary of Obama are hopefully watching him to see what he can do with the economy. When the recession is squeezing the life out of folks, they'll take help from wherever they can find it, even from a man they never thought could be president. :O
I'm wondering how all this is appearing from down under. Have the Aussies felt the recession? Do they blame our banks for the problem? Are they at all interested in the inauguration?
Glad to see you are still excited about all that you are experiencing. When you return, you will not only have stories to tell, but you will have a perspective on life from the other side of the world.
g'day

HI Girl!!! How are you?
Bob has shamed all the Rotarians to commenting on your blog! It sounds like you are still having a great time. It makes me very happy that you appear to be happy and having the time of your life!
Did you get your birthday present from us (visa card)?
I need to write an article for our newspaper and keep procrastinating unfortunately. Can you help me by writing something you would like published in the Alleghany News? I would very much appreciate your help! You can email or blog it.
Take care and God bless. Let us hear from you! Karen Leys
The fires in Australia have been somewhat in the news here. Are you close to any of the fire? Didn't I read that an arrest has been made? Are folks angry that someone set the fires?
